As we stand on the cusp of a new year, it's natural to reflect on what has been and what lies ahead. The changing of the calendar offers a moment to pause, take stock, and make intentional decisions about what we’re carrying with us into the future—and what we’re leaving behind.
What Are You Taking With You?
When considering what to bring into the new year, think about the habits, mindsets, relationships, and accomplishments that have enriched your life. These are the elements that provide strength, purpose, and joy.
For me, I’m taking with me:
1. Consistency in Health and Fitness: My journey has been marked by milestones—from running my first marathon in my forties to earning a pro card as a natural bodybuilder in my fifties, and now embracing obstacle course races in my sixties. These experiences have instilled a mantra I hold dear: “Show up, do your best - that´s all that´s required.” It’s not about perfection but progress, and I’m carrying that resilience forward.
2. Core Beliefs and Mantras: One belief that has become a guiding principle in my life is to embrace challenges as opportunities. This mindset will continue to fuel my drive to inspire others.
3. Connection and Purpose: Whether through personal relationships or my work with WBHI, fostering connection and helping others design their version of “The Good Life” is something I’ll nurture even more in the coming year.
What Are You Leaving Behind?
Just as important as knowing what to keep is deciding what no longer serves you. The weight of unnecessary baggage can hinder progress and cloud clarity. As I prepare for the new year, here’s what I’m letting go of:
1. Self-Doubt: While confidence grows with experience, self-doubt has a sneaky way of creeping in. It’s time to leave behind the doubts that question whether I’m ‘enough’ or capable. The achievements and lessons of the past prove otherwise.
2. Overcommitting: This year has shown me the importance of focus. By leaving behind the tendency to say “yes” to too many things, I’ll have more space for what truly matters.
3. Fear of Rest: In a world that glorifies hustle, I’ve learned that rest isn’t a weakness; it’s a necessity. The new year is a time to embrace balance without guilt.
